Second Case of Gang Rape Reported in Preah Vihear

Preah Vihear, 24 April 2015: A 20-year old woman was gang-raped by four men in Preah Vihear province last week. It is the second case of gang rape reported during the Khmer New Year celebration.

Based on a report made by ADHOC’s human rights monitor in Preah Vihear province, the victim, a worker staying with her sister in Ro-Ang commune, Preah Vihear’s Sangkum Thmey district, was raped until loss of consciousness by a group of four men on 15 April 2015 in the paddy field located in the same village.

The victim was found by her brother-in-law and immediately hospitalized in the provincial hospital.

A report by the police in Preah Vihear said Heng Cha, 25, Pong Ry, 16, Noeun Vanthai, 25, and Kong Mod, 28, were arrested by the local police few hours after the incident and detained in the provincial prison.

It is one of two gang rape cases reported in different province during the Khmer New Year celebration last week. Another case happened in Kep province where a 15-old girl was intoxicated and then raped by a group of four men.

According to ADHOC’s report, 16 cases of gang rape were reported in 2014, a clear increase compared to 11 cases in 2013, one of which took also place in the Preah Vihear province.
