Tbong Khmum Provincial Court heard the recourse against its default judgment on a case of human trafficking

On 19 March 2026, the Tbong Khmum Provincial Court heard the recourse against its default judgment on a case of human trafficking involving a perpetrator Touch Yon, who was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment and ordering her to pay 15 million riels in civil compensation to the victim for the offense of “Unlawful removal with purpose,” pursuant to Articles 8 and 10 of the Law on the Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation. On 05 November 2025, the perpetrator was arrested has been transferred to serve her sentence at the Tbong Khmum Provincial Prison. However, the court will announce verdict on 25 March 2026.

In October 2017, a female victim identified as T.S.A., 29 years old, residing in Trapeang Pring Village, Trapeang Pring Commune, Tbaeng District, Tbong Khmum Province, was lured by the perpetrator Touch Yon, who is the victim’s aunt-in-law, to go to work in China. She was told that she would receive a high salary to send home, and was assured that if any problems arose, she would be helped to return to Cambodia. Contrary to these assurances, she was instead forced to marry a Chinese man in exchange for money. However, the victim returned to Cambodia in March 2022 and filed a complaint with the court to proceed in accordance with legal procedures.
