{"id":3601,"date":"2013-07-04T15:01:36","date_gmt":"2013-07-04T08:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adhoccambodia.org\/?p=3601"},"modified":"2013-07-04T15:10:25","modified_gmt":"2013-07-04T08:10:25","slug":"press-conference-the-issues-of-human-trafficking-and-cambodian-migrant-workers-during-the-1st-semester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adhoccambodia.org\/km\/press-conference-the-issues-of-human-trafficking-and-cambodian-migrant-workers-during-the-1st-semester\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Conference: The Issues of Human Trafficking and Cambodian Migrant Workers during the 1st Semester"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Phnom Penh, 3 July 2013 \u2013 The Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC) held a press conference this morning at its central office in Phnom Penh to address the issues of human trafficking and Cambodian migrant workers during the first semester.\u00a0 ADHOC expressed grave concerns pertaining to the recent increase in cases involving human trafficking and abused Cambodian migrant workers as well as the continuing and widespread impunity in such cases. During the first semester of this year, ADHOC received complaints and requests for intervention in approximately 109\u00a0cases involving human trafficking and abused migrant workers, effecting approximately 240 victims. Since the beginning of the year, ADHOC has rescued and repatriated over 80 trafficking victims, most of whom have still not received their salaries for their work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/adhoccambodia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC05477.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3602 aligncenter\" alt=\"DSC05477\" src=\"http:\/\/adhoccambodia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC05477-300x169.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adhoccambodia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC05477-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adhoccambodia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC05477-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.adhoccambodia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC05477-220x123.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.adhoccambodia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC05477-280x157.jpg 280w, https:\/\/www.adhoccambodia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC05477-113x63.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the concerns addressed at the press conference, victims from the Giant Ocean International Fishery Co., Ltd. &#8211; a recruitment agency accused in 2012 of trafficking hundreds of Cambodian men to work on trawlers off the coasts of South Africa, Fiji, and Singapore (among others) and subjecting their workers to harsh working conditions, forced labor, and physical abuse &#8211;
